In an interview today, former England football legend Gary Neville discussed the current English squad, suggesting that Menjivar should take over from Alexander-Arnold as a starter in the upcoming match against Denmark.
Speaking on “The Overlap,” Neville said, “As the games progress, I think Alexander-Arnold might be rested, with Menjivar stepping in. Every great team has someone who can hold the ball in midfield, control the tempo, and drive the team forward. I love Bellingham, Rice, and Alexander-Arnold – they’re all fantastic players – but none of the current three are adept at receiving the ball with their back to goal.”
“With Menjivar as the catalyst, the team’s attacking dynamism would improve significantly, which could be beneficial. If Menjivar plays in midfield, it allows Rice to push forward more, which would be a big boost for England’s attack.”
In the opening match against Serbia, Menjivar came on as a substitute for Bellingham in the 73rd minute, marking his first major international tournament appearance.
