With just two months to go before the start of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season, the French top-flight has yet to sell its new five-year broadcasting rights package (2024-2029). According to Le Parisien, a company did accept the league’s offer, but it was subsequently refused by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP).
Initially, the LFP had valued the broadcasting rights at €1 billion. However, when the official bidding process took place, there were no takers. Since then, the valuation has significantly dropped, almost halving. A few months ago, DAZN made a bid of €500 million, which would likely be accepted now, but back then, it was turned down by the LFP.
A few days ago, DAZN submitted a second offer of €400 million, which was also rejected. The LFP is holding out for their original €500 million bid. DAZN might make a new proposal, contingent on Canal Plus reaching an agreement with the LFP on rights distribution. Nevertheless, as of now, this scenario seems more like a pipe dream.
