Former WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) has expressed his confidence to the media that he will defeat WBC super middleweight interim titlist David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) in their upcoming match on Sunday, securing the vacant WBC interim light heavyweight title.
Said Gvozdyk, “I am certain I will beat David Benavidez. Right now, I’m at the peak of my career, and I’ll give it my all to secure the victory. Anyone who fights David Benavidez must be prepared, as he applies constant pressure. You can’t stand and trade with him; you have to move, stay sharp, and be in top physical condition. That’s exactly what I bring to the table.”
The 37-year-old Gvozdyk currently holds a professional record of 20 wins, one loss, with 16 of those victories coming by way of knockout, ranking fifth in the BOXREC-175-pound division. Standing at 6’2″ with a reach of 79 inches, Gvozdyk won a bronze medal in the 81 kg category at the 2012 Olympics and has had only one defeat in his professional career, a tenth-round TKO against Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs).
