As G2 secured their spot in the PGL Copenhagen Major Playoffs with a victory over Virtus.pro, Rasmus Nielsen | HooXi prepared to compete on home soil at the Royal Arena.
Alongside Finn Andersen | karrigan, he became one of only two Danish players to advance to the playoffs. In a post-match interview with a foreign outlet, the in-game leader joked about the uncertainty of receiving support from his home crowd.
“I’ve seen the comments on your news, so I don’t know how many Danish fans I have left after the ECSTATIC game,” HooXi chuckled. “Advancing to the Major quarterfinals feels amazing, and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s indescribable, my family will be there watching me play, and it’s the Major playoffs – it doesn’t get any bigger than this.”
During G2’s match against ECSTATIC, HooXi’s voice echoed loudly, especially during G2’s successful rounds, filling every corner of the stage.
Some community members criticized HooXi’s behavior, but he seemed unconcerned.
“I think it’s part of the game, we were playing against a less experienced team, and in that situation, you might get a bit hyped, and it also brings energy to our team, so I don’t see anything wrong with it,” he said. “I think those complaining haven’t been in that environment or aren’t competitive-minded, so I don’t have much to say to them.”
In an interview with HLTV following Saturday’s match, HooXi explained that his cheering during the game was to help both his fellow Danes focus and his G2 teammates. He also revealed a third reason: his dislike for Peter Ardenskjold | casle, the coach of ECSTATIC.
“The last reason is that their coach has a history, and I think he deserved some heat,” he shared.
Upon being asked by HLTV to elaborate, HooXi stated, “I just don’t particularly like the coach. Obviously, he has had a suspension, and it’s not some crazy personal vendetta; I just felt like giving him a piece of my mind.”
