According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Real Madrid’s approach to Ferland Mendy and Alphonso Davies differs, with manager Carlo Ancelotti prioritizing Mendy’s contract extension over pursuing Davies.
After securing a successful season as La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners in the 2023-24 campaign, Real Madrid welcomed Kylian Mbappe, mourned the impending retirement of Toni Kroos, and prepared for the renewals of Luka Modric and Lucas Vázquez. However, there remains an issue on Ancelotti’s mind.
Mendy’s deal with the Galacticos is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Ancelotti is keen for the Frenchman to finalize a new contract sooner rather than later, having previously stated publicly, “Mendy is the best left-back in the world.” The 2023-24 season saw Mendy enjoy the pinnacle of his career, playing a pivotal role in Madrid’s double triumph.
Madrid is courting Bayern Munich’s Davies, whose contract runs until June 30, 2025. Should Davies depart, Bayern expects a significant transfer fee, while Madrid would prefer a more cost-effective solution or even a free transfer. Davies has turned down Bayern’s renewal talks, expressing a desire to continue his career at the Bernabéu.
