The opening ceremony for the European Championship is scheduled for the early hours of June 15, and according to Sky Sports, it is planned to include a fireworks display with a memorial ceremony honoring the late German football legend Franz Beckenbauer.
UEFA has revealed that there will be an opening ceremony prior to the Germany vs. Scotland curtain-raiser, which will feature a fireworks spectacle. Initially, local authorities in Munich had concerns about the use of fireworks, but after UEFA implemented enhanced safety measures and strict supervision, the display was given the green light.
Notably, Sky Sports mentions that the ceremony will especially commemorate Beckenbauer, who passed away in January, with his widow Heidi carrying the European Championship trophy to the Allianz Arena. Accompanying her will be the 1996 and 1980 Euro winning captains, Jürgen Klinsmann and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
