In the first round of Group A matches in the European Championship, Porteous was sent off and McTominay scored an own goal to save some face, as Scotland, with ten men, eventually lost 1-5 to Germany, suffering a disappointing opening defeat. After the match, Scotland’s captain Robertson spoke to ITV.
Robertson told ITV, “In the first half, we got it completely wrong, we didn’t show our quality. We weren’t aggressive enough in our challenges, and we allowed them to have too much ease in possession.”
“In the second half, with only ten men, I actually think the boys performed very well during that period. We had great support here from the fans, but today’s performance was hugely disappointing.”
“We must bounce back quickly because there are a lot of questions now that need addressing swiftly. Maybe this serves as a reminder of how tough this competition can be. Their key players stepped up and they had answers for almost everything we threw at them. I don’t think we’ve shown our best yet. We have to lift ourselves and start again.”
