With the European Championship looming, Scotland is set to face Germany in the opening match of Group A at 3 a.m. tomorrow. Ahead of the clash, Scotland is brimming with confidence, hoping to make history. Former West Ham United manager David Moyes, now working as a commentator for UEFA and the BBC, wrote in The Times that Scotland has an opportunity to defeat Germany in their first encounter.
Moyes commented: “While I am now commentating for UEFA and the BBC, I will be supporting Scotland in spirit, just as I did in 1977, 1990, and 1998. Major tournaments often produce surprises in the opening matches, and I hope that’s the case today. Germany carries immense pressure and expectations – could this be Scotland’s chance to beat them?
“Germany is the favorite to win the tournament, but Scotland still has a chance. Opening games tend to be closely contested, and you never know how much pressure affects the hosts. Scotland needs to find a way to stifle Germany, defend resolutely to deny them opportunities, and then look to counterattack.
“Many of our players are highly competitive and unafraid of any challenge; they’ve proven that at club level. While reality suggests Germany is stronger and playing at home, making it a tough ask, we have Clarke, and I’m a big admirer. He has made a massive contribution to Scottish football and is skilled at getting the best out of his players.”
