In an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Dutch midfielder Willems addressed rumors about a potential move to Real Madrid. He stated that these reports are entirely false and fabricated by the Spanish media.
At 26 years old, Willems currently plays for PSV Eindhoven and has been named in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming European Championship. Following Toni Kroos’ retirement announcement, some media outlets have linked him with Real Madrid as a suitable replacement. Willems commented, “These rumors are not true. I’m flattered but also uncomfortable because it’s all lies. I’m getting tired of this, constantly answering questions when there’s nothing going on. It’s because someone on TV said I would fit well, and then the Spanish newspapers start writing nonsense.”
Willems’s contract with PSV runs until 2026, and when asked by De Telegraaf if he is considering leaving the club, he replied, “If I were to leave, I would only go to a team that likes to have possession. I’m not a player who spends the whole game chasing the ball in defense.”
