On June 14, football finance expert Stefan Borson stated that if Leicester City actively cooperates with the Premier League regarding its Profit and Sustainability (PSR) breaches, it could potentially avoid an additional three-point deduction.
Borson referenced the example of Nottingham Forest’s point deduction last season, suggesting that clubs that collaborate effectively with authorities over PSR violations might mitigate penalties by up to two or three points.
Leicester City incurred a £90 million loss in the 2022-23 season, leading to allegations of PSR breaches in March. Despite securing the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League last season, the club now faces the possibility of a points deduction at the start of the 2024-25 campaign, potentially starting on a negative points total.
Borson advised that the best course of action for Leicester City would be to work closely with the Premier League and address the PSR issue promptly, thus saving the team from the severe penalty of a three-point deduction at the outset of the season.
