Recently, Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Connelly spoke about the team’s performance last season in an interview.
“We don’t want to place too much emphasis on success or failure. Every year in the NBA, there isn’t just one winner; all other teams are considered losers. We did not achieve our ultimate goal of bringing a championship to Minnesota last season. However, our team performed very well and achieved some success in the playoffs, something that fans in Minnesota have been eagerly awaiting for a long time. We hope this can lay a foundation for our future development.”
Last season, the Timberwolves had a record of 56 wins and 26 losses, staged a great comeback against the Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs to advance to the Western Conference Finals, but were defeated by the Mavericks and missed out on the Finals.
Regarding Gobert’s contract extension, he stated,
“We hope that Gobert will stay here for a long time. We like his agent, who is an old friend of ours and one of the best people in the league. Our goal is to keep players where they want to be. I believe that roster stability will be one of our strengths this season, and we really like our current core lineup.”
Gobert’s salary for the 2024-25 season is $43.83 million, with a player option worth $46.66 million next year.
If Gobert declines his player option for the 2025-26 season, he could become a free agent next summer.
