On August 9, the men’s basketball semifinals of the Paris Olympics officially kicked off, with the German men’s team losing 69-73 to the French team, thus failing to advance to the finals.
This match started well for the German men’s team as they quickly established a lead, only to lose it in the second quarter where their offense faltered, scoring only 8 points and allowing the score to be tied. In the second half, the German team’s offensive efficiency remained low while France regained its touch and began to widen the gap. Germany did have chances to catch up later on, but unfortunately, Schroder missed one of two free throws, losing the opportunity.
In the group stage, Germany had easily defeated France, which gave the players confidence, but this time their shooting was too cold for Schroder to turn the tide. Schroder performed quite well, often stepping up to break through the dry spells; he shot 6 for 18, including 3 of 11 from three-point range, scoring the game-high 18 points along with 4 assists, though he also had 3 turnovers.
Apart from Schroder, only one other player on the German men’s team scored in double digits, with Wagner making 4 out of 10 shots for 10 points.
