On September 1st, in the third round of Serie A, AC Milan drew 2-2 with Lazio away from home. At the post-match press conference, Milan’s head coach Fonseca commented on the game.
Fonseca indicated that Milan’s performance was markedly different in the two halves: “We played very positively in the first half, striving to control the game and had opportunities to score more goals. However, in the second half, the situation was completely opposite, Lazio performed better. Our left-side defense gave too many chances to the opponent, and we also lost our composure on the field.”
During a water break, Leao and Theo stayed away from head coach Fonseca. When asked about this, Fonseca said: “Theo has already explained this matter, there is no issue between him and Leao. Before the match, I discussed playing time with them, they understood not starting, and they get along well.”
Fonseca expressed his efforts to improve Milan: “Milan is currently in a transition period, we need time to improve the team’s playing style. The players performed well in this week’s training, and we received positive feedback. We should focus on the positive aspects of the team; we can’t just talk about tactical and psychological issues. We need to perform like we did in the first half, avoid passive defense on the field, and try to prevent conceding goals. We have many high-level players, but it’s clear the team is undergoing significant changes, and our players need to adapt.”
Milan conceded 6 goals in the first 3 rounds, and when discussing the team’s defense, Fonseca said: “Although we conceded similar goals against Lazio, our defense on the field wasn’t lacking in organization. We must handle the details of defensive issues well and avoid conceding goals for the same reasons again.”
