On August 26, Atlético Madrid officially announced the signing of Barcelona central defender Lenglet on loan until the end of the season.
Lenglet is currently 29 years old and transferred to Barcelona in 2018. So far, he has made 160 appearances for the team in various competitions and has won one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey, and one Spanish Super Cup with the team.
In the past two seasons, he was loaned out to Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa successively. Last season, he made 26 appearances in all competitions for Villa, ultimately finishing fourth in the Premier League and securing qualification for the new season’s Champions League.
Lenglet’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of June 2025. According to previous reports, he will extend his contract with Barcelona by one year to spread his salary, thereby helping to ease the financial burden on the team. The official statement from Barcelona also indicated that this loan deal does not include a buyout clause.
