In the first round of La Liga matches this Saturday, Barcelona defeated Valencia 2-1, a positive start for Barcelona’s coach Flick. However, there was concern when Alejandro Baldé had to be substituted due to an injury. Nonetheless, Baldé himself took to social media to reassure everyone that it wasn’t a serious injury, just a hard knock.
During the match between Barcelona and Valencia, Baldé, who made his first official appearance since January, suffered a collision to his thigh in the first half. He played on until the 64th minute before being replaced by Gerard Martín. This caused worry among many fans as the area injured was the same that previously kept him out of action for 5-6 months. At the time, Barcelona’s coach also stated that they would await the results of post-match scans.
Fortunately, Baldé confirmed via social media after the match that the issue wasn’t significant, stating: “It was just a knock, everything is fine.”
Coach Flick will be relieved that Baldé is not seriously injured, as Barcelona is expected to rely on the young player at left-back going forward. Next weekend, Barcelona will play their first home game of the season against strong opponents Athletic Bilbao, and Baldé being available would certainly be good news.
Baldé is just two months away from turning 21 but already has 57 La Liga appearances and 12 Champions League matches under his belt, scoring one goal and providing seven assists. As a Spanish international, Baldé missed the Euro 2024 tournament due to injury but featured in four games during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
