In the first round of Serie A matches, Napoli suffered a humiliating 0-3 defeat against Hellas Verona. After the game, head coach Conte apologized to the fans.
Conte experienced a significant setback in his first match coaching Napoli. “We must apologize to the fans because the second half performance was simply indescribable,” Conte said in an interview, “In the first half, only one team was playing on the field, and that was Napoli. But in the second half, our attitude and performance were completely different; we melted like ice under the sun.”
Conte severely criticized the team’s performance: “This is really worrying. A true strong team would bounce back in adversity, but we completely fell apart.”
“As the coach, I take responsibility for this, so I apologize to everyone. This match was simply a disaster.”
On Saturday, Conte had stated that this season was a ‘brand new start’ for Napoli, as the team had experienced a disastrous performance last season, ultimately finishing tenth and undergoing three coaching changes.
“This is all too crazy.” He also reminded fans not to expect too much, as the team is still awaiting the arrival of new signings, and key player Osimhen has been left out of the squad due to transfer issues.
Despite Napoli’s clear advantage in the first half, the departure of key player Kvaratskhelia due to injury before halftime significantly impacted the team’s offense. Kvaratskhelia’s exit weakened Napoli’s attacking power, allowing Verona to take the lead. Livramento scored in the 50th minute, and substitute Mosquera added two more goals, sealing the 3-0 victory.
