The Peruvian Football Federation announced on their official website that the venue for the World Cup qualifier match between Peru and Colombia in the South American zone, scheduled for the early hours of September 5, has been changed.
After concluding their journey in the Copa America, the national teams of South America will return to the stage of the World Cup qualifiers. In the early morning of September 5, Peru will host Colombia. Originally, this match was scheduled to take place at the Estadio Monumental (home of Universitario de Deportes), but due to other events at the stadium before and after this game, the Peruvian Football Federation requested a change of venue. The Estadio Monumental, which opened in 2000 and can accommodate 80,000 spectators, is the largest stadium in Peru.
After review by FIFA, the request from the Peruvian Football Federation was approved. Now, the venue for this match has been changed to the National Stadium of Peru.
Agustín Lozano, president of the Peruvian Football Federation, issued a statement saying, “At home, with our people. The Peru national team will face Colombia at the National Stadium. For the Peru national team, playing at the National Stadium is like coming home. We will play in the oldest stadium in Peruvian history!” The Peruvian National Stadium has been in use since 1952 and underwent renovations in 1992, 1996, 2004, and 2011, and now has a capacity of 55,000 spectators.
