In the early hours of August 24, in the second round of La Liga matches, Valencia suffered a 1-3 away defeat against Celta Vigo, marking their second consecutive loss. In the first round of La Liga, they lost 1-2 at home to Barcelona.
After the team’s two consecutive losses, Valencia legend Kempes expressed deep concern about the team’s poor start to the new season in a 90-second video. Dressed in a Valencia jersey, he candidly stated: “As a former Valencia player, seeing the current state of the team, I feel a great deal of pain. Losing both games does not meet our expectations for Valencia, nor is it what we deserve.”
Kempes then directly appealed to Peter Lim, the club’s largest shareholder: “Valencia is not just a football club; it represents a long history, passion, and heritage. I want to say to Mr. Lim that Valencia needs a leader who can take on the mission of success and respect its history.”
He further requested that Peter Lim consider stepping down from management: “We cannot let the greatness of Valencia fade into mediocrity. If Mr. Lim believes he cannot lead the club to the heights it deserves, I urge him to step aside with dignity and hand over control to those capable of restoring Valencia’s glory. Valencia is a symbol of pride in the hearts of all its supporters and those who love it.”
Kempes also posted this message on social media, reiterating: “Mr. Lim, as the owner of the club, I call on you to manage Valencia with commitment and dedication. If you believe you cannot effectively handle the situation, I ask you to step aside and give the opportunity to those with greater passion and vision for the club.”
