On August 7, today’s Olympic women’s basketball quarter-final between the Australian women’s team and the Serbian women’s team is underway.
In the first quarter, Australia had multiple players contributing points, with Smith and George leading the team to establish a lead. The team’s overall shooting percentage was as high as 66.7%. Serbia struggled throughout the quarter, failing to perform at a high level on both offense and defense. Lazic made a buzzer-beating layup to close the gap in score.
At the end of the first quarter, Australia led 26-19 over Serbia.
In the second quarter, the Australian women’s team continued to control the game. After Dugalic scored off an offensive rebound, their lead grew to 10 points. Jankovic scored two points with a layup, and Melbourne quickly responded with a three-pointer. The teams then traded baskets back and forth. Melbourne added four more points with a step-back jump shot and a fast-break layup, extending Australia’s lead to 14 points. Lazic once again made a buzzer-beating layup to reduce the deficit.
At halftime, Australia led 48-32 over Serbia.
