Recently, German superstar Toni Kroos, who has just concluded his professional playing career, gave an exclusive interview to Kicker magazine. In the interview, Kroos mentioned that he has received numerous offers to become a TV commentator but is not yet willing to criticize players on television screens.
In the exclusive interview, Kroos answered questions about becoming a pundit with great caution, saying, “Many channels have sent me invitations, but I haven’t considered any job opportunities. Because I’ve just ended my career as a player, the feel of the pitch is still fresh for me. I don’t see myself as a typical expert; I don’t want to stand on a platform and discuss this or comment on that. I am interested in the role of a match analyst because this position is only about the game, it won’t cause any controversy, there’s no need to analyze transfer rumors, no discussion of coaching issues, just analyzing the game, which suits me very well.”
Kroos also explained why he didn’t win major individual awards such as the Ballon d’Or during his playing career: “It wasn’t an award I pursued, but that doesn’t mean I was far from winning it. The image of players who win the Ballon d’Or and World Player of the Year is always similar, and although my image doesn’t fit with these awards, there were often winners in the teams I played for—Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema. I helped them reach the top, and personally, if the German national team had won the European Championship, I might have had a chance.”
