With less than a year to go until the expanded Club World Cup in the United States, FIFA is seeking media rights bids for the tournament in the Americas, Asia (excluding China), the Middle East, and North Africa.
FIFA is accepting combined bids for both the 2025 and 2029 editions of the event or separate bids for just the 2025 tournament. The deadline for bids is August 20.
Previously, negotiations between FIFA and Apple over global broadcasting rights for the tournament hit a stalemate. According to a previous report by The New York Times, Apple’s offer was around $1 billion, which is one quarter of what FIFA was asking for. Sources say that several qualified clubs have been contacted to ask if they would be willing to participate at a lower price than initially offered.
FIFA has stated that it will accept bids for the Club World Cup media rights in the other three regions—Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and China—in a separate process at a later date.
