Recently, former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino commented that Argentine international Enzo Fernández, due to his involvement in a discrimination incident, has no future at the club.
This controversy arose after Enzo exposed footage of Argentine players singing discriminatory songs about the French team during a live stream, which sparked widespread criticism and condemnation on social media. Several Chelsea players have also unfollowed Enzo.
Cascarino stated that Fernández’s actions could lead to his departure from Chelsea, especially considering the tense atmosphere within the club.
According to reports, not only have Chelsea players unfollowed him, but Wesley Fofana has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Enzo. Cascarino said, “This is a difficult situation. I think Chelsea must make a big decision about whether they really want to keep Enzo Fernández. If players are unhappy with someone in the locker room, I’m not sure how many can accept what happened.”
Despite Enzo later apologizing for his inappropriate behavior, Cascarino believes that such an apology might not be enough to mend the rift between him, his teammates, and the club, particularly given the presence of several French internationals in Chelsea’s squad who may find it hard to let go.
Cascarino remarked on talkSPORT that even though Chelsea had broken the transfer record by paying £105 million for Enzo, the Blues should consider selling him to maintain harmony within the team.
Cascarino emphasized that divisions in the locker room could negatively impact the team’s overall performance. He noted that while not all players need to like each other, the discord caused by such a sensitive issue might not be easily resolved.
In conclusion, Cascarino suggested that Enzo needs to make a formal face-to-face apology to the entire team as a step towards rebuilding trust, although this does not guarantee that the controversy will be fully settled.
