On July 25, it was reported that the Spanish basketball team encountered an issue ahead of the Olympics: due to arriving too late, they are unable to train in Lille and are even considering training outside of France to minimize disruption to the players’ rhythm.
According to Marca, the local organizing body had scheduled the arrival of the Spanish basketball team for July 23 and arranged training schedules and venues based on this date. However, Spain arrived later than the other teams. It is understood that the Spanish basketball team has already selected a venue on the other side of the French-Belgian border, where the national team may train.
Spanish head coach Sergio Scariolo commented, “It seems absurd, but this is the current reality.”
Lille is located near the border between France and Belgium, approximately 20 kilometers from the nearest Belgian city.
The Spanish basketball team’s first Olympic match will be against Australia on July 27 at 5 PM.
