According to The Sun, Portsmouth player Bishop suffered a heart attack during the team’s preseason preparations and will be forced to undergo surgery.
The 27-year-old player, who was previously a primary school teacher before joining Championship side Portsmouth, has missed all of the team’s preseason friendlies so far. This is because earlier this month he and his wife welcomed their first child. After this unexpected incident, he said regretfully, “This is an uncertain time for myself, my wife, and our child. Despite the challenges, I am very grateful to a team of top-notch doctors who are using pioneering methods to help me regain my health. I also want to thank Portsmouth Football Club for their ongoing support. I look forward to returning to the pitch quickly and playing in front of you.”
Last season, Portsmouth returned to the Championship after a 12-year absence. Bishop scored 20 goals for John Mousinho’s team, making him instrumental in their League One championship win. The club had signed him for just £500,000.
