The German division of Sky experts, Florian Plettenberg, and French media outlet Ouest-France have reported that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has ordered the club to intervene in Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich’s contract renewal.
Recently, PSG has frequently interfered with other clubs’ contract negotiations, luring players to join on a free transfer with high salaries or substantial signing-on fees. Examples include last summer when PSG secured Inter Milan’s Škriniar and Spanish star Asensio for free. Now, PSG has set its sights on Bayern’s German star, Joshua Kimmich.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, PSG’s interest in Kimmich is very concrete, and Bayern has been made aware of this. Both PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and coach Xavi Hernández are keen to bring Kimmich on board, whether through a transfer this summer or a free transfer in 2025. This poses a challenge for Bayern, who are planning to start renewal negotiations with Kimmich in the coming days. PSG’s intervention at this point complicates matters. German media indicates that Bayern is prepared, and if an appropriate offer is made, Kimmich could be transferred.
French media highlights that PSG highly values Kimmich, believing his experience of winning the Champions League twice can benefit the team, especially after their loss in the 2020 final. PSG believes Kimmich’s addition would strengthen their right flank or midfield. Owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi thinks that if they can sign a German player this summer, it would be great, but if not, PSG is willing to persuade Kimmich not to renew his contract and wait for a free transfer next summer.
Bayern currently has a price tag of €50 million on Kimmich. However, in recent years, PSG’s usual approach has been to sway players with high salaries and signing-on fees.
