On the morning of July 31 (local time), in the 5th-6th place playoff match of the women’s rugby sevens event at the Paris Olympics, the Chinese women’s team lost to host nation France and finished in 6th place. However, they still achieved the best performance in the history of Chinese women’s rugby at the Olympic Games.
This was the second Olympic tournament for the Chinese women’s rugby team. After finishing 7th in their debut at Tokyo, they won against the previous bronze medalist Fiji in the group stage of this tournament, and then staged a comeback victory over Britain, ultimately setting a new record for their best-ever performance.
In an interview, team member Chen Keyi said with great confidence: “We fought with the determination to survive against all odds, those who fear death are sure to meet it.”
