On May 27th, Atlanta midfielder De Jongen announced on his personal social media that he will be unable to join the Dutch national team for this year’s European Championship due to an injury.
Previously, De Jongen was included in the Netherlands’ initial 30-man squad for Euro preparations, but now he has confirmed his unavailability for the tournament.
De Jongen wrote, “I cannot imagine a week with more ups and downs in my career, let alone my life. We lost the Italian Cup final, I couldn’t play, and then saw my teammates lift the Europa League trophy.
“But amidst all that excitement, I spent a lot of time with medical staff only to learn that I won’t be able to participate in the Euros.
“I will recover from this disappointment and watch my teammates and friends play as a fan, but today is a very difficult day for me.”
