On July 23, according to multiple Spanish media reports, Atlético de Madrid have reignited their pursuit of Girona forward Dorvi Bayeck and have made significant progress. Following AC Milan’s activation of Álvaro Morata’s release clause, Atlético need a new number 9, and Bayeck is Diego Simeone’s top target.
According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Atlético’s preferred option is not to pay the full €40 million release clause for Bayeck all at once, but instead negotiate with Girona using a combination of a fixed fee plus bonuses or staggered payments amounting to the €40 million. In favor of Atlético is that they have already reached an agreement on personal contract terms with the player’s representatives in recent weeks, needing only Girona’s consent to finalize the transfer.
Meanwhile, according to Marca, the total transfer fee for Bayeck is likely to consist of a €30 million fixed transfer fee plus an additional €5 million in add-ons, which is acceptable to Atlético. The newspaper also suggests that if more forwards leave Atlético, Simeone will look to strengthen his attack further, with one potential target being German international Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund.
