At 15:30 on August 3, in the women’s 1/8 knockout round of the Paris Olympic Archery competition, Chinese archer Li Jiaman faced off against Mexico’s Alexandra Valencia.
According to the tournament format, the match was divided into five sets. In each set, both archers shot three arrows, with the total score determining the round’s points. After each round, the archer with the higher score received two points; if the scores were equal, each competitor received one point.
The match was fiercely contested from the start. In the first two rounds, Li Jiaman and Valencia tied with combined scores of 29 and 28 rings, respectively, ending the two rounds level.
In the third round, Li Jiaman performed excellently, scoring 29 rings, while Valencia scored 27 rings, giving Li Jiaman a 2-point lead. In the fourth round, both tied again with 28 rings, leaving Li Jiaman leading 5-3.
In the fifth round, Valencia scored 29 rings with her three arrows, while Li Jiaman scored 28 rings, allowing Valencia to tie the overall score and sending the match into a shoot-off!
The shoot-off was a single arrow to determine the winner. Li Jiaman shot first but only scored 8 rings, while Mexican archer Valencia scored 9 rings. Ultimately, Li Jiaman lost to the Mexican competitor with a final score of 5-6, ending her run in the round of 16.
With this, the individual women’s archery event at the Paris Olympics has concluded for China, without winning a medal. In the men’s individual event, Wang Yan of the Chinese archery team will compete in the 1/8 knockout round tomorrow afternoon.
