On July 10th, local time, the two quarterfinal matches in the upper half of the women’s singles draw concluded. No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina and No. 31 seed Barbora Krejcikova both claimed victories, setting up a semifinal showdown at this year’s Wimbledon.
Elena Rybakina
Former champion Elena Rybakina dispatched No. 21 seed Elina Svitolina, a semifinalist last year, in just 62 minutes, advancing to her third Grand Slam semifinal. After facing an early break at the start of the match, Rybakina held all of her service games thereafter. She broke Svitolina twice in the second and eighth games of the first set to take it 6-3. In the second set, Rybakina was even more dominant, breaking Svitolina in the first and seventh games and closing out the match with a love game on her serve, winning the second set 6-2.
Barbora Krejcikova
Krejcikova achieved the first break of the match in the third game of the first set and maintained her lead all the way through to win the set 6-4. Jelena Ostapenko fought back in the second set, leading 4-1 at one point, but Krejcikova then won four games in a row to go ahead 5-4. After both players held their serves, the second set went into a tiebreak, where the Czech player converted her second match point, winning the tiebreak 7-4 to secure her place in her second Grand Slam semifinal.
