On July 14th, the NBA Summer League will see the Dallas Mavericks take on the Utah Jazz.
The Jazz’s summer league lineup is quite luxurious, featuring players like George, Sensabo, Kessler, and Hendricks who were all key players for the Jazz towards the end of last season. In their previous three games, the Jazz achieved a record of two wins and one loss. George scored 31 points in the game they won against the 76ers, almost unstoppable. The only loss came when George and Kessler were resting. Therefore, as long as players like George are on the court, the Jazz will be very competitive in this year’s summer league.
Regarding the Jazz’s rookies, tenth pick Cody Williams had a poor performance in the last game, going scoreless in eight attempts and only managing two points. On the contrary, 29th pick Collier showed great determination, scoring in double digits twice in three games with 14 points and 12 points respectively. Additionally, center Filipovski’s performance was also rather average, scoring just two points from one out of six attempts in the last game. For the Jazz, whether George and Kessler play will be crucial to their chances of winning.
The Mavericks traded their final 58th pick and cash to the Knicks at the draft to acquire the 51st pick, selecting French forward Akinza. Last season, Akinza averaged 10.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for the Saint Quentin club in France. Moreover, at the 2023 U19 World Cup, Akinza shone brightly, averaging 19.3 points as France’s top scorer, shooting 53.2% from the field and an impressive 48.9% from three-point range! He ultimately led France to a runner-up finish. His performance in the summer league is highly anticipated.
