On July 16, the saga between Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers took another turn this summer.
Earlier, Clippers President Lawrence Frank revealed to the media that some of what George said about his departure from the Clippers wasn’t entirely accurate.
Frank mentioned that when they initially discussed a contract extension with George, they did indeed offer him a two-year, $60 million deal. However, this was not the full picture. The contract also included George’s player option for $50 million in the new season. This meant that the Clippers offered George a three-year, $110 million contract.
However, the three-year, $110 million contract is $100 million less than the four-year, $211 million deal George signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, and $43 million less than Leonard’s three-year, $154 million contract.
Frank stated that after the team acquired James Harden, they proactively increased their offer to George during their initial negotiations. George recently expressed that he wanted a deal similar to Leonard’s with the Clippers.
