According to a report by prominent NBA journalist Woj, as relayed by the player’s agent, Bruson has agreed to a four-year, $156.5 million contract extension with the New York Knicks.
Bruson chose the four-year, $156.5 million max deal over signing a five-year, $269 million contract in 2025, which will result in him taking $37.1 million less per year for the next three years, totaling $113 million, to assist the team in building a championship-contending roster.
However, Bruson’s agent noted that this contract includes a player option for the fourth year, allowing Bruson the opportunity to recoup the remaining $113 million through either a four-year, $323 million extension in 2028 or a new five-year, $418 million contract in 2029.
Bruson’s new contract will take effect starting in the 2025-26 season, with his salary for the upcoming season set at $24.96 million.
In the 2023-24 season, Bruson played 77 regular-season games for the Knicks, averaging 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists; he also played 13 playoff games, averaging 32.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.
