Today, Likai, a naturalized Chinese basketball player, watched from the sidelines as China’s national men’s basketball team faced off against the Spurs in the summer league.
After the game, he addressed several questions during an interview.
Reporter asked: What are your thoughts on Yang Hanshen? Some have compared him to Jokic. Do you think he has what it takes to make it to the NBA?
Likai: He has great skills. I believe he understands that there is still much work to be done before he can join the NBA, but his skills are impressive, and he’s on the right path. Plus, I’ve heard that he works hard, which is crucial. As long as he maintains high-intensity, high-level training, he can achieve his dream of entering the NBA.
Reporter asked: There were rumors that you had left the Chinese national team. Can you tell us about your future plans?
Likai: No, that’s not true at all. Clearly, we didn’t achieve outstanding results last year, but I’m not someone who gives up easily. My focus now is on the next major tournament. I want to come back and show my true abilities. Last year, I was injured (in the eye) and didn’t have enough time (it took some time post-surgery) to prepare for the World Cup. My goal is to rejoin China’s national basketball team to prove myself and qualify for the Olympics alongside young talent.
