On July 17, the NBA Summer League will see the San Antonio Spurs take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Spurs have a 3-2 record in their previous Summer League games, currently riding a three-game winning streak. In their last game against the Atlanta Hawks, the Spurs won 79-76. Spurs’ fourth overall draft pick, Castle, was sidelined due to injury. However, Mensah and Boye performed well, both scoring in double digits. In the final stages of the game, the Spurs extended their lead thanks to Boye’s goal, rendering Wallace’s three-pointer futile, ultimately defeating the Hawks led by number one pick Lissaix.
The Spurs selected fourth overall pick Castle in the draft, who is the biggest highlight for the Spurs in this Summer League. In previous games, Castle has shown good form. Especially against the Trail Blazers, Castle scored 22 points, outshining Klingon. However, the Spurs later announced that Castle would miss the remainder of the Summer League due to a wrist injury. In this situation, players like Mensah and Sissoko may become key focuses for the Spurs.
The Pelicans have played two Summer League games so far, losing both. In their last game against the Magic, the Pelicans lost 86-91. Last year’s 14th overall pick, Hawkins, scored 24 points, while 21st pick Misi scored 9 points, and 47th pick Reeves scored 12 points. However, at critical moments in the game, the Magic held the upper hand, eventually securing victory by a five-point margin.
The main player for the Pelicans in this Summer League is last year’s 14th overall pick, Hawkins. In the previous season, Hawkins averaged 7.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He will undoubtedly be the star of the Summer League. In his last game, he scored 24 points, and his performance in this game is worth watching. The other two rookies this season are also worth keeping an eye on. Particularly Misi, whose performance in the first game was inferior to second-round pick Reeves.
In this match, the Spurs’ chances of winning will undoubtedly decrease without Castle. If Hawkins can deliver an outstanding performance, the Pelicans will have a higher probability of winning.
