On July 18, the NBA Summer League continues with a matchup between the Warriors and the Cavaliers.
The Warriors have been showcasing impressive depth in their Summer League roster. Previously led by Boj and TJD, they started off with a five-game winning streak. In their last game, the Warriors defeated the Bulls 92-82. According to reports, Boj and TJD have concluded their Summer League journey. Boj recorded 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists, while TJD contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Beyond Boj and TJD, the Warriors’ Summer League lineup still features familiar faces, most notably Knox, the ninth overall pick from the 2018 draft. Unfortunately, this once highly-touted prospect has yet to make his mark in the NBA, even finding himself competing against rookies and fringe players for contracts in the Summer League.
Prolodin, who went undrafted in 2022, secured a two-way contract with the Warriors following an outstanding performance averaging 16.6 points. Ethan Thompson, the guard who made the All-NBA G League Third Team last season, also put up commendable numbers.
The Cavaliers selected Jalen Tyson, a forward from the University of California, with the 20th pick in this year’s draft. This 6’6″ player boasts not only self-initiated offensive skills but also shooting prowess and decent passing abilities.
In their recent Summer League game, the Cavaliers trounced the Bucks 112-81. Tyson tallied 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Bates scored 18 points, Porter had 15, Pete Nance added 14, Travers contributed 10, and Zhaire Smith chipped in 9.
Bates, a second-year player, was named to the All-Summer League Second Team last year. He has continued to perform well this year, though he failed to secure a regular rotation spot during the previous regular season.
Zhaire Smith, the 16th overall pick in 2018, has also struggled to establish himself in the NBA due to severe allergy issues.
With Boj and TJD wrapping up their Summer League stints, the overall strength of both teams is now more evenly matched, making the outcome and direction of the game less predictable.
