As the 2024 UEFA European Championship group stage approaches, former German national team captain Philipp Lahm, in an interview with AFP, has surprisingly tipped France as the team to beat, despite their recent 0-2 loss to Germany.
Lahm argues, “France is the favorite because they have 40 incredibly talented players. They have a very balanced setup, allowing them to adapt and switch seamlessly in different situations. Their backups could easily step into starting roles without much integration needed. They form a competitive team on the pitch almost instantly.”
Furthermore, Lahm predicts that the winning team will be a powerhouse from European football. However, he also hopes for an unexpected performance, akin to Iceland’s at the World Cup or Portugal’s surprise victory over France in the 2016 Euros.
