On July 13, English forward Watkins attended the pre-match press conference ahead of the Euro Cup final against Spain, comparing England’s playing style to that of Real Madrid.
When discussing England’s performance in this tournament, Watkins said, “You can look at a team like Real Madrid and how they perform in the Champions League: they are comfortable without the ball and confident they can score when they have it.”
“I think something similar is happening with the England team. We are a tough team to beat and we only need one chance to win the game.”
“Whether our performance is good to watch or if a player has had a bad day doesn’t matter. We have many talented players in our squad which means we always have a chance to score.”
In addition, Watkins also discussed the Ballon d’Or award, saying, “Regardless of the outcome, I believe Bellingham should win the Ballon d’Or. He demonstrates maturity, confidence, and influence in his games. I cannot praise him enough. I played against him when he was at Birmingham, and seeing his transformation now, he is a very mature player.”
