On July 16th, England lost 1-2 to Spain in the European Championship, missing out on the title.
The English national team has only won the championship once, which was the World Cup title in 1966.
Notably, after England’s victory in the 1966 World Cup, renowned Brazilian writer Rodrigues published an article in the “Globo” newspaper, where he discussed England’s World Cup win.
In his article, Rodrigues wrote: “When the match concluded and the English captain lifted the World Cup trophy with both hands, it echoed the words of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven,’ ‘nevermore,’ ‘never again.’
And indeed, in the 58 years since, England has not managed to lay their hands on the championship trophy once more.
