The Dutch influence at Manchester United continues to grow, with the club’s head coach, Ten Hag, firmly in place. The Red Devils are increasingly adding to their Dutch contingent. Recent developments indicate that not only have Dutch legends Van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake joined the coaching staff, but the club is also said to have secured transfers for two Netherlands internationals—Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee.
De Ligt, a young yet experienced defender, and Zirkzee, a promising forward, will both be significant additions to United’s squad. Zirkzee is set to complete his medical imminently, expected to move from Bologna to Old Trafford soon, while De Ligt’s arrival will undoubtedly bolster United’s defense.
However, Manchester United’s Dutch strategy does not stop there. They have set their sights on another rising Dutch star—Simons. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder shone in the semi-finals of the Euros, despite the Netherlands’ eventual loss to England. Simons’ performance caught the attention of several European giants, including Manchester United.
Simons’ future remains uncertain, with Paris Saint-Germain facing a rebuild after losing Mbappe. The player is eager to secure regular playing time at a higher level of competition, and working with Ten Hag presents an attractive option. United may opt for a loan-to-buy deal to ensure Simons can smoothly transition and adapt to the Premier League pace.
For Manchester United, bringing in Simons would not only strengthen their attacking force but also boost the club’s commercial value. His former club PSV could also benefit from this transfer due to a sell-on clause when he moved to Paris.
Previously, United brought in Lisandro Martinez and Antony from the Eredivisie, and as transfers continue, the Dutch contingent at United might see even more new faces join the ranks.
