At 3 a.m. on July 15th, the UEFA Euro final between Spain and England will take place. Prior to the match, Spanish captain Alvaro Morata gave an interview to UEFA Euro officials.
About whether he can recreate the glory of Spanish football:
Sixteen years ago, when Morata was 15 years old, he watched the final between Spain and Germany in Vienna. A precious photo was taken of him and his friends celebrating joyfully in a square near his home. Regarding whether he can replicate the glory of that time, Morata said, “It is useful to consider and imagine this: imagining positive things is good. However, we still have to face a strong team like England in the final, which will be very tough. I cannot even describe what it would mean for me if I could lead the Spanish team to win this UEFA Euro.”
About how to guide 17-year-old Yamal:
“Have full confidence in him. Most of the players here have been playing together for several months, and we keep telling him: We will win the UEFA Euro! We try to protect him in detail because he is a special footballer. Now we are only one step away from creating history again, but we must work hard because it will be tough.”
Is there time and space to enjoy?
“Honestly, not yet. Maybe that’s just how it should be. You have to be fully focused on many situations. There will be time (to have fun) and to be happy. If everything goes well, we will celebrate. If things don’t go well on Sunday, it’s different – you will suffer for a few days, but life isn’t always about victories and titles; it includes our shared experiences here. We know that ending this time will be sad because this time has been great.”
