England legend Wayne Rooney recently expressed in an interview with The Times that he holds high hopes for the young talents of the Spanish team.
Gavi’s stunning goal against France has wowed everyone, to which Rooney commented, “He will certainly gain confidence after scoring this goal. It reminds me of the situation during Euro 2004, when I was still a teenager, enjoying the best moments of my life.”
Rooney himself became the youngest goalscorer in tournament history at the age of 18 years and 237 days during Euro 2004, but this record has since been taken by 17-year-old Gavi.
Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams has been the target of many top clubs and his performance in this tournament has also been outstanding. Rooney praised, “In my view, Williams is very impressive, he reminds me of a young Cristiano Ronaldo. He is a big guy, good at receiving balls, always making the right decisions. He is a threat in one-on-one situations and can score goals, the England team needs to pay extra attention to him.”
