On July 10th, in the UEFA Euro semi-final match between France and Spain, Yamal scored his first goal in the European Championship. He became the fourth U21 player in Euro history to score and assist in a single tournament.
Before this tournament, there were only two U21 players who had contributed both goals and assists in a single Euro event: Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at the 2004 UEFA Euro. Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or five times in his career, second only to Messi in terms of wins, while Rooney transferred to Manchester United after that Euro tournament and became a key player for the Red Devils.
The other two U21 players come from this very tournament. Previously, Turkish player Gulsel had also scored and assisted in this tournament. With Yamal’s spectacular world-class goal in this match, he became the fourth player in Euro history to achieve this feat. Notably, among the four players who have achieved this, Yamal is the youngest, with a promising future indeed.
