In the past ten days of June, the MotoGP rider market has seen a significant shuffle, fueling spectators’ anticipation for the 2025 season and offering early signs and possibilities. With twenty rounds in this year’s MotoGP calendar and only seven completed so far, the reshuffle contrasts with previous years when line-ups typically became clearer after the mid-season mark.
The latest official announcement came on June 13th, as KTM revealed that Spanish rider Maverick Viñales would part ways with Aprilia at the end of the 2024 season to join Tech3. He will share the KTM RC16 factory bike with Italy’s Enea Bastianini, who had already been confirmed for the team. Earlier, on June 1st, KTM announced that Pedro Acosta, also from Spain, would move from GASGAS to the KTM factory squad next year, partnering with South Africa’s Brad Binder as the Austrian manufacturer’s spearhead.
A particularly sensational and debated change was announced on June 5th when Ducati’s factory team declared that Marc Marquez, the Spanish rider, would switch to Ducati’s factory team for the 2025 season. He will race alongside Italian Francesco Bagnaia on the latest Desmosedici GP machine.
On June 3rd, current MotoGP championship leader, Jorge Martin of Spain, signed a multi-year deal with Aprilia, which means he will transfer to the Aprilia factory team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
