Recently, Spanish footballer Juan Mata, in an interview with an Egyptian media outlet, discussed his future plans and the upcoming Euros, stating that he has no intention of retiring just yet and had once hoped to play under Pep Guardiola.
After leaving Kobe Victory Ship earlier this year, the 36-year-old is currently unattached but says he has no plans to hang up his boots.
Mata commented, “I will continue my career. I am analyzing a few offers to choose the best one. I want to keep playing for many more years and finish in a dignified manner.”
On the topic of coaches he has worked with, Mata said, “My relationship with Mourinho is great, he’s one of the best people I’ve worked with. Klopp is also a friend, we often talk about football.”
When asked about Egyptian star Salah, Mata remarked, “I have great respect for everything he has achieved at Liverpool and with the Egyptian national team. Though there was that time (laughs) when I got injured against Liverpool while playing for Manchester United because of him. He’s an exceptional player and a good person; every player in Egypt dreams of being like Salah.”
“I had wished to play under Guardiola, but it never happened. Playing against his teams was always challenging, especially Manchester City,” he added.
Lastly, discussing potential Euro favorites, Mata named, “Spain, France, Portugal, and Germany are the standout teams.”
