On July 5, UEFA announced two disciplinary decisions, fining English star Jude Bellingham €20,000 for an inappropriate gesture and suspending Turkish player Merih Demiral for two matches due to a similar offense.
The move sparked anger among many Turkish football fans who perceived a “double standard” in the decisions. One fan commented, “Demiral makes a gesture that 90% of the world doesn’t understand and gets a two-match ban; Bellingham makes one that everyone knows the meaning of and only gets a fine of €20,000.”
In the upcoming Euro Cup quarterfinals, England will face Switzerland, while Turkey will take on the Netherlands.
