According to Argentine media Tyc Sport, Argentina’s legendary national team coach Jose Pekerman responded to Kylian Mbappe’s claim that the Euros are more difficult than the World Cup. Pekerman believes that Mbappe’s statement reflects a classic “sour grapes” mentality.
Before the Euros, Mbappe’s comments were criticized by South American football figures. Recently, the Argentine coaching legend Pekerman also chimed in.
In an interview with ESPN Sports, Pekerman said, “You have to take Mbappe’s words with a grain of salt. He has been hurt by South American players, as we took the World Cup trophy from them. They’ve just become world champions and they fantasize about winning it again soon. We need to understand that we must defend South American football more. Fortunately, we broke the streak of European teams winning the World Cup for four consecutive years. It was high time for that change, and now we need to maintain this level.”
