On July 3, Turkey advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Championship with a 2-1 victory over Austria. In that match, 19-year-old Real Madrid youngster Güler provided an assist for Demiral, making him the third player, after Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, to score and assist in the same European Championship.
Despite his young age of 19, Güler has already established himself as a key figure at Real Madrid and in the Turkish national team.
In the opening group match, where Turkey defeated Georgia 3-1, Güler scored a stunning long-range goal to regain the lead for Turkey after the score was tied at 1-1, playing a crucial role in their victory and scoring his first European Championship goal.
In the round of 16 clash against Austria, Güler took a corner in the 59th minute which led to Demiral’s header for a brace, extending Turkey’s lead to 2-0. This marked Güler’s first assist in the European Championship in his career.
Notably, Güler joins Ronaldo and Rooney as the third teenager ever to achieve both goals and assists in the same European Championships. Both previous players accomplished this feat in the 2004 edition of the tournament.
