Former Premier League star Jamie O’Hara has leveled harsh criticism at Harry Kane following the striker’s display in England’s UEFA Euro quarter-final against Switzerland. O’Hara described Kane as “lazy” and even sarcastically labeled him “England’s Ronaldo.”
During the first half of the match, O’Hara was displeased with Kane’s effort, believing he lacked commitment and drive. He remarked, “Kane seemed off, a bit lazy, and it’s really disappointing to see that.”
O’Hara also expressed concern, saying, “What worries me is that we’ve got a Ronaldo-like figure in our team, and we rely on him.”
Other English football legends, such as Alan Shearer, have also criticized Kane for not actively seeking goal-scoring opportunities.
Comparing Kane to Ronaldo is a pointed assessment, given Ronaldo’s recent controversial performances. In the first half against Switzerland, Kane, despite his deep-lying role, managed only nine touches, the fewest by a center-forward in the 2024 Euros. This comparison was fueled by Ronaldo’s match against France the day before, where he had just 11 touches, a then-record low for him.
Ronaldo has gone five games without scoring, drawing widespread critique. He has failed to convert any of his 23 shots and missed a crucial penalty in the Round of 16 against Slovenia, leading to an emotional outburst afterward.
Despite netting a vital penalty in the shootout against France, Portugal bowed out in the quarter-finals due to teammates’ misses.
Kane’s performance has also been under scrutiny, similar to other England stars who have struggled in recent international fixtures. As England captain, Kane has scored two goals in this Euro campaign, netting against Denmark in the group stage and in extra time against Slovakia in the Round of 16.
