On June 7, Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt tied the knot with his fiancée Aniek Molenaar in a grand wedding ceremony before the start of the Euro Cup.
The couple met through mutual friends when De Ligt was 18, and they quickly fell in love. On June 30 last year, De Ligt announced on social media that he had proposed to Molenaar successfully. Now, one year later, their wedding has taken place in their home country, the Netherlands.
Molenaar revealed that they initially planned to get married at the end of May, on their anniversary, but with Bayern Munich potentially reaching the UEFA Champions League final in early June, she postponed the wedding to early June.
However, the Dutch national team is currently in the midst of intense preparations for the upcoming Euro Cup. It’s said that after the wedding ceremony, the newlywed De Ligt didn’t have time to enjoy his honeymoon night; instead, he hurriedly left the event to return to the Dutch training camp.
